XiMulatorCore

XiMulatorCore — OPC UA Information Model Design & Engineering Tool

XiMulatorCore is a standalone OPC UA information modeling and engineering tool developed by 4CE Industry.

It provides a flexible environment for creating, importing, editing, documenting and managing OPC UA information models, with a particular focus on Type NodeSets.

Designed for industrial software developers, equipment manufacturers, system integrators and information model engineers, XiMulatorCore supports the development of reusable OPC UA information models independently of any OPC UA server runtime.

The tool combines model engineering, XMI 2.5 transformation, standardized NodeSet2 XML import and export, Markdown documentation generation and multi-project management.

OPC UA Type NodeSet Engineering

XiMulatorCore provides an engineering environment for defining and maintaining OPC UA Type NodeSets.

It supports the creation and management of OPC UA modeling elements, including ObjectTypes, VariableTypes, DataTypes and ReferenceTypes, together with their properties, components and relationships.

These definitions describe the structure and semantics of industrial equipment, processes and application-specific information models.

By separating model definitions from runtime execution, XiMulatorCore allows engineers to develop information models independently of the applications that will subsequently instantiate or consume them.

XMI 2.5 to OPC UA NodeSet2 Generation

XiMulatorCore supports the transformation of engineering models represented in XMI 2.5 format into OPC UA NodeSet2 XML files.

The generated files follow the standardized NodeSet2 XML representation specified in OPC UA Part 6, Annex F.

This functionality enables engineers to generate OPC UA information model definitions from XMI-based engineering models, reducing the need to recreate model structures manually.

The resulting NodeSet2 files can be imported into compatible OPC UA engineering tools and runtime environments.

Existing NodeSet Import and Editing

XiMulatorCore supports the import of existing OPC UA NodeSet2 XML files.

Engineers can inspect imported information model definitions, modify their structure, extend existing types and maintain application-specific information models.

This capability facilitates the reuse of existing OPC UA information models, including models defined by OPC UA Companion Specifications.

Imported models can be maintained and exported in the standardized NodeSet2 XML format.

OPC UA NodeSet2 XML Export

XiMulatorCore generates OPC UA NodeSet2 XML files according to the information model representation defined in IEC 62541-6, Annex F.

The exported files contain the OPC UA information model definitions developed or maintained within the engineering environment.

Using the standardized NodeSet2 representation allows models to be exchanged with compatible OPC UA tools and runtimes without coupling their definitions to XiMulatorCore.

Markdown Documentation Generation

XiMulatorCore supports the generation of technical documentation in Markdown format directly from OPC UA information models.

This functionality enables engineers to produce documentation derived from the model definitions maintained within a project.

The generated Markdown files can be incorporated into technical documentation repositories, version control systems and engineering workflows.

Generating documentation from the information model helps maintain consistency between model definitions and their associated technical descriptions.

Multi-Project Management

XiMulatorCore provides multi-project management capabilities for organizing OPC UA information model engineering activities.

Engineers can maintain separate modeling projects for different equipment families, industrial applications or customer-specific requirements.

This approach supports the organization and maintenance of multiple information models within a common engineering environment.

Standalone Operation and OOUAMiddleware Integration

XiMulatorCore operates independently of OOUAMiddleware and does not require the OOUAMiddleware runtime to create or maintain OPC UA information models.

The NodeSet2 XML files generated by XiMulatorCore can be used by compatible OPC UA applications.

They can also be loaded and instantiated within OOUAMiddleware, the industrial integration platform developed by 4CE Industry.

OOUAMiddleware provides a native OPC UA information model runtime, while XiMulatorCore provides an independent engineering environment for preparing and maintaining model definitions.

This separation allows information models to be developed, exchanged and reused independently of their runtime deployment.

Typical Applications

XiMulatorCore supports OPC UA information model engineering activities, including:

  • Creation and maintenance of OPC UA Type NodeSets.
  • Development of application-specific OPC UA information models.
  • Transformation of XMI 2.5 models into OPC UA NodeSet2 XML.
  • Import, modification and extension of existing NodeSets.
  • Standardized NodeSet2 XML export.
  • Generation of technical documentation in Markdown format.
  • Multi-project information model management.
  • Preparation of information models for OPC UA server implementations, including OOUAMiddleware.

XiMulatorCore is intended for engineering teams, equipment manufacturers, industrial software developers and system integrators working with OPC UA information models and Companion Specifications.
