IJT – Industrial Joining Technologies

Overview

The leading manufacturers of assembly systems have decided to develop multiple OPC UA Companion Specifications (CS) for joining technologies with the VDMA Robotics + Automation Association.
The initiative “Industrial Joining Technologies (IJT)” describes various joining technologies used for manufacturing processes such as tightening, riveting, flow drill fastening, gluing, etc.

The scope of these specifications was developed with the help of DIN 8580 and shows which joining processes can be classified under Industrial Joining Technologies (IJT).

This working group was started in May 2019.

Technical Overview

The goal of VDMA Robotics + Automation is to develop consistent specifications for the field of Industrial Joining Technologies (IJT), Robotics and Machine Vision (MV).

IJT Working Group describes information models for variety of tools that can be connected to a robot and/or be used as stand-alone applications.

As a first step, OPC 40451-1 for Tightening Systems was published in October 2021 with the following primary use cases: Asset Management, Result Management, Condition Monitoring, Basic Events.

The joining specification (OPC 40450 for Joining Systems) includes the following use cases:

  • Asset Management
  • Condition Monitoring
  • Result Management
  • Event Management.
  • Joining Process Management
  • Joint Management
  • Methods to handle the Control use case.

Further joining technologies will follow accordingly.
