The project will define a UA companion specification and – if needed – other specifications using OPC UA constructs for the purpose of exposing device, edge and cloud communication mechanisms and information to OPC UA applications.
It covers communication between endpoints of cloud services and endpoints of devices physically located in a production environment. The communication crosses one or more administrative company borders and cloud systems. ICF considers both the communication of edge components to cloud components as well as cross-company communication with other cloud systems.
The scope of this project has been modified. Rather than developing separate specifications a number of enhancements for cloud federation have been defined that will be incorporated into OPC 10000-14 (PubSub). Specifically:
- Requirements for mutual authentication and
- Requirements for assignment of Clients to Roles.
