Wireless Machine Tool Peripherals

Overview / Charter

Develop a specification for the representation of Wireless Machine Tool Peripherals.
A so-called Wireless Machine Tool Peripherals (WMTP) is a self-contained, nonstationary component of a machine tool that can transmit data wirelessly. Due to the flexible application, a WMTP transmit data using a wireless connection. Examples for WMTPs are driven tool units, static tool holders, angle heads or adjustable feed out tools. These are therefore separate devices which are not controlled by the machine tool and which are not mapped by the information model for machine tools in accordance with OPC 40501.

The goal is to specify an OPC UA Information Model for the representation of Wireless Machine Tool Peripherals (WMTP). It is planned to create a common interface among WMTP for different tasks, manufacturers and model series. The OPC UA for Wireless Machine Tool Peripherals interface standardizes the provision of process and device specific data for machine tool control systems and software systems like MES, SCADA, ERP or data analytics systems.
