I am attempting to implement mDNS capability according to the specification, but am confused by the example SRV record in OPC 10000-12 which shows:

_opcua-tcp._tcp.example.com. 86400 IN SRV 0 5 4840 uaserver.example.com.

My understanding is that all mDNS names should end in .local, so shouldn't this be

_opcua-tcp._tcp.local. 86400 IN SRV 0 5 4840 uaserver.example.com.

The .local TLD is used when a standard DNS is not configured for the host.

If a host has a standard DNS record it should use its canonical DNS name when announcing itself via mDNS.
