I read up on the OPC standard and know that PLCs can utilize this standard to send data to many MES systems seamlessly. There are also Computer Numerical Controllers that are utilized on machine tools in the manufacturing industry. Can OPC be used for these controllers as it is used with PLCs. Currently, many of the CNC machines utilize MT Connect by Fanuc to send the machine's signals back to an OEE or QA application.
If so, where would I look for more informations?

Excellent question. The answer with respect to CNC the same as PLC's, vendors are adding native OPC UA client and server functionality to the devices. This allows easy access to the complex data information resident in the CNC allowing external applications to have seamless interoperability. We deliberately have a partnership with MTConnect, and a companion specification for the information model of MTConnect has been developed for OPC UA. OPC UA with this companion specification would be able to publish the data to a variety of applications inclusive of OEE and QA in a generic fashion.
There are number of suppliers that have native OPC UA with MTConnect. I cannot endorse or provide a list publicly at the risk of excluding some accidentally. Contact me by e-mail and I will provide you the information.

I have tried to get information on how Fanuc MT Connect and the OPC Foundation are working together to obtain information form CNC Controllers used on CNC machine centers and turning centers. I was informed that there are several sources available to obtain this information.
