OPC UA for Energy

The energy transition demands seamless, secure, and future-proof data exchange across power generation, grids, industry, and emerging technologies like hydrogen. The OPC Foundation Energy Initiative addresses this challenge by bringing the energy ecosystem together around a common, open, and vendor-independent information architecture based on OPC UA.

Why OPC UA for Energy?
Because energy systems are increasingly interconnected and data-driven. OPC UA enables standardized, secure, and semantically rich communication across traditionally siloed domains – OT and IT, utilities and industry, legacy systems and modern platforms. It reduces integration effort, avoids vendor lock-in, and provides a trusted foundation for transparency, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

What does the future look like with OPC UA for Energy?
A harmonized digital energy ecosystem where power generation, renewable assets, grids, consumers, and hydrogen technologies can interoperate seamlessly. OPC UA will serve as the backbone for scalable energy management, real-time optimization, sustainability reporting, and cross-sector innovation—supporting a resilient, flexible, and climate-neutral energy system.
