For Immediate Release

Co-operation between OPC Foundation and Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group (EPSG) regarding seamless integration of OPC UA and POWERLINK.

OPC Foundation and Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group Sign Memorandum of Understanding at SPS/IPC/Drives.

Scottsdale, AZ – November 24, 2015 – OPC UA is about scalable communication with integrated security by design up to MES / ERP systems and into the cloud, Powerlink is about hard real-time capability in machines and factory control systems. Both technologies complement each other perfectly.

The digitalization in all areas of industrial automation require consistent communication across all levels while using Internet technologies: both in as well as outside of the factory, for example to cloud-based services. That exactly is what the OPC Foundation and the Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group (EPSG) want to account by developing an interface specifications and harmonized access.

At the SPS/IPC/Drives Fair Thomas J. Burke, President and Executive Director of the OPC Foundation and Stefan Schoenegger, Managing Director Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding in which both organizations agree to closely co-operate developing these interfaces.

“The tight collaboration of our both organizations and technologies will be a breakthrough for seamless communication from ERP systems down to the sensor level”, says Stefan Schoenegger, Managing Director of the EPSG.

Tom Burke, President and Executive Director of OPC Foundation adds, “with POWERLINK we found a powerful new partner and an ideal match for OPC UA towards the machinery level and the associated real-time requirements”.
