Co-operation between OPC Foundation and PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) regarding real time data and open IT traffic with OPC UA

OPC Foundation and PI Sign Memorandum of Understanding at SPS/IPC/Drives to intensify cooperation on Industrie 4.0.

Scottsdale, AZ – November 24, 2015 – The collaboration between PI and OPC Foundation provides the solution for information integration and interoperability from the embedded world to the enterprise. Suppliers and end-users alike will benefit from this collaboration, and is part of the continuum of the partnership between the organizations reflected in other initiatives inclusive of FDI.

OPC UA provides the information communication infrastructure for the widespread adoption of ProfiNET enabling information connectivity to the cloud(s). This truly embraces a complete solution that aligns with the objectives of industrie 4.0, M2M and the industrial Internet of things. The connected device world across all industrial industries will become the connected data and information world through this collaboration.

At the SPS/IPC/Drives Fair Thomas J. Burke, President and Executive Director of the OPC Foundation and Karsten Schneider, Chairman PROFIBUS & PROFINET International signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The overall goal is about the seamless coordination to run deterministic real time traffic and open IT traffic in the same network as this will be the foundation to make Industrie4.0 happen.
