General information:

  • The OPC Day Seminar is about industrial interoperability, scaling from sensor to IT & Cloud and back. Learn about the ONE harmonized solution – OPC UA FX – for process and factory automation. Learn how OPC UA Information Models help improve interoperability; why MQTT on its own is not enough and why the six biggest cloud providers support OPC UA over MQTT.

Agenda

  • 10:00am – 10:40am
OPC UA as the Enabler for the Digitalization: Status & Update on Technology and Collaborations
by Stefan Hoppe, President OPC Foundation
    .
The OPC Foundation is the world’s largest ecosystem for secure industrial interoperability. This presentation will summarize all new initiatives to foster the goal of one unified solution for process and factory automation that scales from the field to the cloud. OPC UA is the unique technology that combines all the requirements for the challenges of digitalization: independence, built-in security, standardized information exchange, scalability from the field to the cloud, open-source-based on an IEC standard. However, the key is to collaborate with other SDOs to create the largest network of experts who agree on standardized information and make it openly available.
Attendees will be updated on the status and roadmap of both the technology e.g., the UA .NET User Group, the UA Global Directory Services (GDS), and on the collaborations with regard to the Asset Administration Shell, namely the IDTA, efforts for harmonized Energy Consumption Interfaces, and joint efforts for the Process Industry with FieldComm Group, NAMUR, and OPAF as well as Factory Automation.
    .
  • 10:40am – 11:20am
OPC UA for the Field: Update & Further Roadmap
by Peter Lutz, Director Field Level Communications Initiative, OPC Foundation
    .
Learn about the achievements and the further roadmap of OPC Foundation’s Field Level Communications (FLC) Initiative, which is working to expand the scope of OPC UA to the field level, including motion, instrumentation, determinism, and functional safety. The presentation explains the overall approach to creating a harmonized communication solution for process and factory automation, based on the OPC UA framework and complementary communication standards, such as Ethernet TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking), 5G and Ethernet-APL (Advanced Physical Layer). The focus is on the consideration of the first OPC UA Field eXchange (UAFX) specification release, which addresses cross-vendor interoperability between controllers – such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Motion Controllers (MC), Robot Controllers (RC), and Computer Numerical Controllers (CNC) – supporting real-time and safety data exchange, based on OPC UA Client/Server, OPC UA PubSub, UAFX, and OPC UA Safety.
    .
  • 11:20am – 11:40am
Cloud Connectivity with OPC UA – Benefits and Application Examples
Mike Clark, Director North America, OPC Foundation
    .
For many years, the OPC Foundation has highlighted the scalability of the OPC UA technology, from sensors to the cloud. This session will provide details regarding cloud initiatives within the OPC Foundation in order to enable seamless information exchange for IIoT and Industrie 4.0 scenarios. Learn about the benefits of OPC UA over MQTT as a multi cloud solution and dive into live demonstrations, including 15+ leading Automation vendors, like Beckhoff, E+H, KUKA, Mettler-Toledo, P+F, Phoenix-Contact, Samson, Sick, Siemens, Wago, and more.
    .
  • 11:40am – 12:00am – Q&A
  • 12:00am – 12:45pm – Lunch break
  • 12:45pm – 01:05pm
Adoption: OPC UA from the point of view of cloud provider aws
    Steve Blackwell, aws
    .
  • OPC UA related success stories
including P&G, Renault, Miele, Equinor, Siemens and many more
    (Various presenters)
    .
  • 01:45pm – 02:00pm Coffee break
  • 02:00pm – 02:15pm
Overview of OPC UA-based Information Models
    Stefan Hoppe, President OPC Foundation
    .
  • 02:15pm – 02:30pm
Learn how OPC UA Information Models help improve interoperability
Jonathan Wise, Vice President of Technology, CESMIICESMII will share how their members are leveraging OPC UA Information Models and the recently released Cloud Library to help drive project success and repeatability, independent of the underlying protocols and infrastructure
  • 02:30pm – 02:45pm
    Presentation by MTConnect
    .
  • 02:45pm – 03:00pm
No semantics? No Success! The Global Production Language is key
Dr. Broos, Lead Research and Technology, VDW
    .
Standardized interfaces, based on OPC UA, are the necessary basis for Interoperability. The Global Production Language consists of the “OPC UA for Machinery”, which defines cross domain vocabulary and can be enriched by domain specific standardized vocabulary.
As a result, interoperability from shop floor to the cloud is enabled by standardized semantics, based on OPC UA. Learn about the details of the Global Production Language and the global acceptance and adoption within the global community.
